Andaman & Nicobar Islands of India
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are two group of Islands are located in Bay of Bengal Sea. The total area of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are 8249 square kilometers which consists of 572 Islands of various sizes.
Out of 572 Islands only 97 islands are inhabited. The norther most island, Landfall Island is 901 km away from Hoogly river of West Bengal, India and just 190 kilometers from Burma. The southernmost island is Indira Point which is just 150 kilometers away from Indonesia.
The capital of Andaman & Nicobar is Port Blair. The total population is 379,944. The original inhabitants of the islands were aborigines who lived in the forests which do hunting and fishing. The Andaman tribes Andamanese, Onges, Jarawas and Sentinalese. The tribes of Nicobar are the Nicobarese and Shompens.
The major religions in Andaman & Nicobar Islands are Hinduism,Islam and Christianity. The major languages spoken were Hindi, Nicobarese, Bengali,Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and English.
To ensure balanced growth of Industries in Andaman & Nicobar Islands the govt put special emphasis without disturbing the ecology of the Islands. Most of the industries in Andaman & Nicobar Islands are small and medium enterprises, mainly timber and agriculture based. Trade and investment opportunities abound in the industries of Paint, Flourmills, Soft drinks, Textiles and steel.
Agriculture
Rice production is the important crop in Andaman while coconut and arcanuts are important crops in Nicobar Islands. These Islands are well known for spices including Clove, Peeper and Cinnamon. Sugarcane,Fruits, Vegetables and Oil palm are other crops cultivated in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Food processing industries has greater scope as all these are utilized profitably for the development of Agriculture. Small vegetable and food processing industries based on Banana, Mango, Pineapple and Papaya can be setup.
Fisheries
The Islands have a long coast line of 1912 kilometers, having rich potential for fisheries development. It has a exclusive economic zone of 6 Lakhs Square kilometers which is 30% of total exclusive economic zone of India. The estimated marine potential of the island is 250000 tonnes . The govt especially promotes the industries of fish culture fish processing and other allied industries like fish pickling, canning and fish oil.
The Fresh water fish culture in Andaman & Nicobar Islands are estimated to be 90 Hectares and it can be increased by build check dams in the slopes of the hills. Currently Private traders are engaged in processing , packing and exporting high value marine life (Reef fishes, Lobsters, Shrimps, Shark flesh and fins..etc) in frozen form.
Tourism

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are known for their Eco friendly tourist destination all over the world. More than 150000 tourists are visiting the Andaman & Nicorbar Islands every year. The Govt did various measures to attract High end tourists from all over the world.
Infrastructure
Infrastructure development is the key area of focus to Andaman & Nicobar Government.
Roadways:
The state transport department run various bus services from capital city Port Blair to other suburbs. It extended services to ten Islands and other private operators are available.
Aviations:
Port Blair is connected with Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai by air. Presently flights operated by Air India, Indian Airlines and Jet Airways.Govt has plans to make Port Blair airport to International Airport.Helicopters are operated to and from Port Blair airport which passing through various routes in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Power:
Due to distinct geographical characters of Andaman & Nicobar Islands diesel generators in each island supply 68MW of power.Govt is planning for Alternative source of power as solution using Biomass, Coconut waste and Coal dust. South Andaman is planning to increase the power supply to 33 MW using Biofuels.
