India Joins as 28th Country where same sex marriage is Legal. The Supreme Court of India,  today ruled that homosexuality can not be declared criminal and removed Article 377 related to that. However, in 27 countries, homosexuality is legally recognized. We will look in to that.

In Netherlands, in the 2000 the country approved homosexual marriage was legal. Netherlands is the first country in the world to recognize homosexuality.In the year 2001 four homosexual couples were married. It is the first time homosexual or LGBT couples got married in the world.

Such legislation was passed in Belgium in 2003. In 2005, Canada was granted recognition for homosexual marriage. Spain in 2005, South Africa in 2006 and Norway in 2008.


In year 2009, the popular Lurthern church of Norway approved the same sex marriages of the Priests. It is noteworthy even though it is against the religious terms.



In 2009, the Sweden approved the same sex marriage and in 2010, Argentina approved the same sex marriage. Argentina was the first country to have passed such law among Latin American countries.

A similar law was introduced in Portugal and Iceland in 2010. In 2012, this law came into effect in Denmark and in year 2013 the Uruguay, Brazil, New Zealand, England Wales and France are followed.

In 2015, Ireland, Finland and Greenland, 2016 in Colombia, 2017 in Australia, Canada and Germany were granted recognition for same sex marriage.
