Om Prakash Chautala is a renowned politician , agriculturalist and he was the former chief minister of Haryana state in India. He was born in 1st January 1935 and as on 2018 he is 83 Years of age. He was born in Chautala , Punjab in British India and his father is a renowned politician Chaudhary Devi Lal and his mother Harki Devi. He born with three brothers and one sister and they are Ranjit Singh Chautala, Pratap Singh Chatuala, Jagdish Kumar Chautala and Shanti Devi.

His wife is Sneha Lata Chautala and he had two sons and four daughters and they are Ajay Singh Chautala, Abay Singh Chautala, Suchitra Chautala, Sunita Chautala, Anjali Chautala. He loves reading and listening to music. 

His net worth as of 2009 is 15.5 crore which consists movable and immovable assets. The movable assets or properties are 5 lakh cash, Deposits worth 2.5 crore, Jewellery's worth of 55 Lakhs and other assets with value of 19 Lakhs. His Immovable properties are Agricultural lands worth of 7.5 crores and Non agricultural land worth of 5.5 Lakh and Residential buildings worth of 5 crore. He has two cars which are 2006 model Toyota Camry and 2005 model Mercedes Benz. 



His Journey as Politician
  • In 1970 he joined as a member of Janata Dal and elected first time to Haryana Assembly.
  • In 1987 he elected to Rajya Sabha and he served there for another two years
  • In 1989 Dec, he was appointed as Chief Minister of Haryana from 1990 to 91 for first time and he served two short tenures in that period.
  • In 1996 assembly elections, he won and become the opposition leader and in 1999 assembly elections he become the Chief Minister of Haryana for the fourth time with the support of Bharatiya Janata Party.
  • In 2000 state assembly elections his party allied with Bharatiya Janata Party and formed government. He become chief minister for the fifth time and in consequitive elections on 2005 and 2009 his party failed to form the government but maintained his seat. 
  • In 2013, he was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for JBT Recruitment Scam which lead to end of his political career.
Controversies
  • There was a controversy in 1990 which he was involved in killing of his political opponent
  • In 2008, he was involved in a scam of recruiting over 3000 unqualified teachers in Haryana state from 1999 to 2000. In 2013, he was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment also with his son, Ajay Singh Chautala.
Ajay Singh Chautala
His father Chaudhary Devi Lal , served as the Chief Minsiter of Haryana from 1977 to 1979, 1987 to 1989 and also the Deputy Prime Minister of India from 1989-1991 and with his father he was in jain fighting for the rights of the farmers.
